Bunker practice, White Sands National Monument Photo submitted by David168485 on 03/01/2019
Redhawk Golf Course
I had not played there for about 3 months and the course has gone downhill. Large sections of the fairways were dead and roped off. Tee boxes were only fair and greens were slow and sandy. The sand traps were mostly unplayable, either had as concrete of with half full of water.
Room for Improvement
This course has the potential to be one of the premier courses in the region. Great layout, although it’s a little tight in areas for a links course. Extremely warm and friendly clubhouse staff, which makes up for the pro shop being an eyesore. Decent facilities.
The weather has been brutally hot this summer but I can’t defend the conditions of the course at the moment. General maintenance on bunkers, tee boxes and around the greens leaves much to be desired. There’s so much overgrowth in areas that could be cleaned up to keep the course looking better-maintained.
The Starters at this course are awesome! I have great exchanges with them every time I play. I was disappointed with a conversation I had with one of the Rangers during my round. I did have pace of play issues this day and when I shared my displeasure about the groups in front of me with the Ranger, he was pretty dismissive. I think there were etiquette issues he’d rather not address.
Like I said before- this course has all the potential, but the current conditions are concerning. Unfortunately, there’s not a lot of golf courses in this area and this course is owned by the same folks that own Sonoma Ranch. The conditions are poor and rates are higher than the quality at both courses at the moment. I will only play here again on discounted or twilight rates until the conditions improve or rates match the experience provided. $74 for a weekend round here right now is just silly.
Great course, had fun!
Squeeze in this round of golf while my son did his orientation at NMSU. Had a solid round, good to hit off of grass on the range and had a delicious chorizo breakfast burrito!!! I’ll be back!
Lots of hype and very disappointing
Stop trying to build links courses with deep bunkers in the desert it doesn't work anywhere, the soil, irrigation requirements heat and monsoon either wash away the sand or compact it with the clay the soil is made of and make concrete. This happens everywhere NV AZ Palm Desert, TX, NM it doesn't work build for the geography topography and climate and you will have a better product. The layout is good but either get GPS in the carts or yardage guides phone GPS is great unless its so hot out your phone gets too hot to run aps. Greens were slow as shag carpet they will say its because of the heat NMSU course greens were at a decent speed and in the same place 10miles away so it can be done. I had heard good things I was disappointed that any bunker shot was hit it and hope there are 2 short par 4s where Driver into a greenside bunker is the smart aggressive play but become 7 iron sand wedge holes because there is no reward for the risk. This place needs a bunker redesign as badly as a real clubhouse
Great day!
The course is always perfect! The staff team are so friendly and professional.
Best in Las Cruces
Hard to understand why the rest of the courses in town don’t keep in great shape like Red Hawk does.
Bunkers
Bunkers need work, need sand, too much gravel in them
Bunkers
The bunkers need to be worked,. They are mostly hard with too much grave in them., not much sand. As deep and steep as the sides are creates issues.
